Retired military officer’s wife killed, two others injured in Kyaikto assassination

The family of retired military officer Lt. Col. U Aung Lwin was shot at in Taung Thu Su Ward, Kyaikto Township, Mon State, and his wife was killed while he and his son were injured.

On September 8 around 5 p.m., 48-year-old military retiree U Aung Lwin was returning home by car when unknown gunmen shot him in front of his house.

U Aung Lwin and his son were injured in the attack, and U Aung Lwin’s wife, Daw Sandar Soe, died on the spot.

Seven-year-old Maung Aung Nyein Man, son of U Aung Lwin, received a bullet wound in the right eye and was rushed to Yangon Hospital for treatment due to his critical condition.

According to locals, U Aung Lwin, a member of the township YMBA, operates a gold shop named Soe Yadanar in Kyaikto and does business in cooperation with the military council.

So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack on the retired military officer’s family.

An official of the Kyaikto PDF said that their group did not carry out the attack and that they were very saddened by the deaths of civilians.

The junta-affiliated BGF’s Lieutenant and his wife were also shot and killed between Kawhtin and Boyargyi villages in Kyaikto Township, on 27 August.
