Curfew imposed by the military regime in Mon State’s Chaungzon Township has been lifted since October 27, said locals.
Following the coup, the military council imposed a curfew from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. under Article 144 for security reasons.
The junta’s General Administration Department announced that the night curfew has been revoked since October 27.
Even though the curfew in Chaungzon has been lifted, residents say the curfew in the neighboring town of Mawlamyine remains a problem for going out for health reasons.
There were some exchanges of fire between the armed resistance forces and the regime forces during more than a year and a half of the coup, but the resistance forces’ operations were later reduced.
The military council lifted the curfew only in Mon State’s Chaunggzon township, and changed the curfew hours, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 a.m., in Mudon, Thanbyuzayet, Thaton and Paung townships.
However, the curfew hours in Mawlamyine, the capital of Mon State, remain the same 12:00 PM to 4:00 AM as before.
The curfew remains in effect in Kyaikto and Belin Townships, where fighting is common, as well as Ye Township, where martial law has been declared.
