A woman killed by junta artillery fire in Ye’s Hnit Karen village

Ye, June (9)

A 25-year-old woman was killed when junta artillery launched heavy weapon into Hint Karen village in Mon State’s Ye Township, locals told Than Lwin Times.

After an unknown armed gang threatened and abducted the administrator of Hnit Karen village, U Ne Win Myint, the regime troops launched a mortar shell into the settlement on June 8.

An artillery shell fired by Wephe Village-based junta artillery hit houses near a Chinese cemetery in Ward 5 of Hnint Karen village and exploded.

A 25-year-old migrant worker, Ma Tin Gyi, was killed by the explosion, and two houses were also damaged.

Locals said that U Ne Win Myint, the village administrator of Hnit Karen village, who was taken by the armed group, was released that afternoon.

Ye Township, which is under martial law, is the stronghold of resistance forces, and the military council frequently fires heavy weapons into villages for security reasons, causing civilian casualties.
