The displaced people have been unable to return to their houses due to the ongoing presence of junta forces in Hnit Karen village in Mon State’s Ye Township until now, locals told Than Lwin Times.
The security forces from Hnit Karen police station were deployed in the village following the attack on June 25.
More than 2,000 villagers fled to Ye and the villages where their relatives live after regime forces stationed themselves in the monastery of Hnit Karen village and arrested the locals.
A resident said that the residents of Hnit Karen are monitoring the situation without daring to return home.
The junta unit stationed in the Hnit Karen monastery has been arresting local people every other day, and so far at least 15 local people have been arrested.
Some of the arrestees were released after being interrogated and the junta asked for 10,000 to 17,000 kyats each from their family members, and most of them are still in detention.
Residents claimed that the soldiers conducted an unannounced search of the village and took belongings and phones of the residents.
The junta launched an air raid in the attack on Hnit Karen village, killing one woman and injuring five others.
