Fighting resumes in eastern Dawei

Fighting has resumed between the two sides as junta troops entered Tanintharyi Region’s eastern Dawei, where the fighting receded, Lieutenant Yat Kha from the Dawei Collective Column (DCC) told Than Lwin Times.

The 80-strong military column entered Thingandon village at around 1:00 p.m. on 16 August and clashed with the combined resistance forces.

Three soldiers were reportedly killed and some were injured during the battle that lasted for more than an hour.

After the battle, the military column entered the monastery in Leik Kyae Pyaung village and left for Pakan village on 17 August morning, according to the Dawei Collective Column.

The junta troops have been patrolling in the eastern Dawei in recent days, forcing more than 500 residents from Thaingandon, Bawa Pin, Leik Kyae Pyaung villages to flee.

In Tanintharyi Region, more than 36,000 local people have been forced to flee their homes due to fighting in July, according to local research organizations.
