Kyunsu, 12 December
The resistance fighters launched an attack on a camp where regime troops and Pyu Saw Htee militias were stationed in Mingok village around 6:30 a.m. on 8 December.
The tension remains high between the two sides because of the four-hour-long battle, and locals from nearby villages have fled to safety to escape the fighting.
The battle killed eight regime troops and injured four others, an official of Tanintharyi-PDF told Than Lwin Times.
One militiaman from the Pyu Saw Htee group was captured alive, and two resistance fighters sustained injuries in the battle.
The military council’s artillery shelling and desperate gunfire forced more than 1,000 residents from Mingok, Maung Hlaw and Ya Daung villages to seek shelters, said locals. Those villages, including Mingok, are strongholds of the pro-junta militia group, Pyu Saw Htee.
A resident said that because the military council in the villages of Kyunsu Township is pressuring them to serve in the military, local people are hiding in nearby villages and relatives.
The revolutionary forces said they would launch an attack on military and administrative targets associated with the military council and the Pyu Saw Htee, who are acting in favor of the military regime.
The attack was carried out by the Myeik-District battalion 2, Company 2, Kyunsu-PDF, Palaw-PDF, and Tanintharyi-PDF with the help of drone forces.
Since last month in Tanintharyi, there have been frequent clashes between the military council army and the revolutionary forces. The military council had to prepare for a strong defense following the reports that the revolutionary groups would seize the town.
