More than 1,000 residents have fled their homes since the fighting began December 8 morning in Mingok village in Tanintharyi Region’s Kyunsu Town, said locals.
The massive revolutionary forces raided the military outposts in Mingok village, where regime troops and militiamen, including the Pyu Saw Htee group, were stationed, sparking a firefight between the two sides.
Due to the fighting, at least 1,000 people from the villages of Mingok, Maung Hlaw, Yadaung, Joe Taung, and War Yit fled by both land and waterway to Kyunsu Town.
According to displaced people, they could hear the continuous firing of artillery shells and gunfire during the battle, and people from almost all the surrounding villages had fled.
An official of the Myeik-PDF told Than Lwin Times that the fighting that started at 6:00 a.m. yesterday continued until the afternoon, and the number of casualties has yet to be known.
According to the revolutionary forces, Mingok village is a stronghold of the junta-affiliated Pyu Saw Htee militia group.
On November 16, the junta army attacked the local defense forces that were coming to the market in War Yin Village, Kyungsu Town, and casualties have been reported on both sides in addition to the residents.
Since last month, Tanintharyi has seen a lot of fighting, and the military council has been aggressively preparing for defense due to rumors that revolutionary forces would take over the town.
