The military council reported that three local people arrested for their alleged links to the PDFs in Thanbyzayet town, Mon State, have been charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
The junta army arrested at least 60 people related to the PDFs in the town for questioning after Thanbyuzayet-PDF member U Mya Than was arrested with a pistol on November 30.
Ko Wai Lin Soe, Ko Htet Naing Oo, and U Kyaw Swar Tun, who were interrogated in Thanphyuzayet District’s Wekali interrogation, were charged by the military council on December 21 at Thanphyuzarat police station under Penal Code sections 50(j), 52(a), and 55(a).
If convicted, the three face a maximum sentence of life imprisonment or up to 20 years in prison.
The military council filed cases against them for staging anti-regime protests, criticizing the military council on social media, and providing food, medicine, and money to PDFs.
On December 18, the junta filed a lawsuit against three local residents, including deputy staff officer U Aung Ko Ko from Thanbyuzayet Township’s General Administration Department, under Anti-Terrorism Act which carries life sentences.
The military council handed over only six local residents to the police, while the rest of the local residents are still being interrogated at Wekali and PDF memebers U Mya Than and Ko Min Min were tortured and beaten to death, said sources close to the military.
After the arrest of PDF member U Mya Than, the military regime sealed off at least five houses including a house and Hay Man Construction Materials shop owned by Ko Ta Yoke.
