U Aung Ko Ko, the deputy staff officer of the General Administration Department in Thanbyuzayet Township, Mon State, has been arrested and charged with allegedly sending information to the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), according to sources close to the military council.
On December 15, the military council detained the deputy staff officer, U Aung Ko Ko, who lives in Thanbyuzayet’s Kyant Khaing Yay Ward.
After being interrogated for three days at Wekali, Thanbyuzayet District, on December 18, he was charged with Sections 50(j) and 52(a) of the Anti-Terrorism Act at the police station.
According to sources, U Aung Ko Ko was arrested on charges of being an informant based on witnesses’ statements.
On November 30, after U Mya Than, a resident of Thanbyuzayet, was arrested with a gun, the junta arrested and interrogated 60 more locals on suspicion of being linked to the members of the PDFs.
Among those arrested, U Mya Than and U Min Min died during interrogation, according to sources close to the family.
According to the Anti-Terrorism Act, deputy staff officer U Aung Ko Ko could be sentenced to a maximum of life in prison if convicted.
After U Mya Than’s arrest, the military council forces sealed off at least five houses, including the home and shop of Hay Man construction materials shop owner Ko Ta Yoke.
According to the report of the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), more than 800 people were arrested in Mon State during the coup.
