10 Thanbyuzayet residents face terrorism charges

The number of people arrested and charged under the Anti-terrorism Act for allegedly funding the members of People’s Defense Forces in Thanbyuzayet, Mon State has reached 10, according to report of military council.

On November 30, the junta army arrested PDF member U Mya Than in Thanbyuzayet and arrested more people related to the PDFs and those who provide financial support to them.

Among them, U Than Zaw, U Aung Myint, U Mone and U Chan Mon were charged with Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code, Section 50 (j) and 52 (a) of the Anti-Terrorism Law at Thanbyuzayet police station on December 22.

Those four locals were accused of providing money, food and medicine to the PDFs and participating in protests against the military dictatorship.

Than Lwin Times revealed that the military council filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against three people, including deputy staff officer U Aung Ko Ko from Thanbyuzayet administrative office and three others, including Ko Win Lin Soe on December 21.

If found guilty, the 10 residents of Thanbyuzayet could be sentenced to life imprisonment or up to 20 years in prison, and their homes and properties could be confiscated.

According to local residents, the regime troops arrested at least 60 people in Thanbyuzayet town, and among them, PDF members U Mya Than and Ko Min Min died at the Wekali interrogation center.
