Robberies are on the rise in Tanintharyi Region’s villages of Launglon Township, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
On the afternoon of May 24, two men on a motorcycle came to Daw Nyo, who runs a money transfer business, in the northern part of Minyat village, and robbed her with a gun.
The robbers took more than 7 million kyats and threatened Daw Nyo to stay away from the house, so she had to close the door and run away.
On May 17, a group of gunmen robbed the home of a six-million-baht Thai lottery winner in a village in Launglon Township, taking more than Ks 100 lakhs.
An official from the local People’s Defense Force (PDF) warned the people to be careful as the robbery was rampant, and said they would take action against those responsible for the robbery.
In Launglon Township, after the military coup, the regime’s the kite and Pyu Saw Htee groups killed NLD party members and pro-NLD family members. The locals are increasingly concerned now that the robberies have occurred again.
