Dawei, November (19)
At least 13 local residents were recently arrested in Dawei Township of Tanintharyi Region, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
On November 15, the regime forces arrested the driver and two other people in the vehicle that were carrying goods at the Kamyawkin Bridge in Dawei Township ,and U Soe Thein and his wife who came to Dawei were arrested along with their car.
In addition, on the same day, the junta troops searched homes in Dawei’s Daung Ngu Ward under the pretext of checking the overnight list and arrested four men and two women again.
On November 16, U Htay Aw, U Aung Kyi, and his wife were also arrested by the Military Council from Bonmaw Ward and Kayatpyin Ward in Dawei.
The military council arrested the local residents for allegedly not registering as overnight guest list in the neighborhood and for providing financial support to the People’s Defense Forces.
Currently, the military council has taken them to the Dawei police station and interrogation centers, and some of them have been charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
After the military coup, at least 1,000 civilians were arrested in Tanintharyi, of whom 12 political prisoners were released by the military council on November 17.
