Dawei, September (9)
The military council arrested 11 local residents, including a pregnant woman, during the first week of September in Dawei, Tanintharyi Region, the residents told Than Lwin Times.
They were arrested on the grounds that they were in contact with the People’s Defense Forces and found political information on their phones.
On September 2, a pregnant woman, owner of a pharmacy store on Wekyun Myothit (7) Street, in Dawei, was arrested by the regime forces, claiming to be inspecting overnight guest registration.
The family members are concerned because the woman is more than six months pregnant.
“There have been a lot of arrests in Dawei now. Security is tight everywhere,” said a local.
The military council troops have tightened security in Dawei and are constantly searching and checking the city gate as a result of recent fighting between the military council army and the local defense forces.
Following the military takeover, at least 1,000 locals from Tanintharyi Region were detained, and the military council sentenced roughly 500 of them to prison terms.
