Daw Nwe Nwe Aung, a Mawlamyine NLD MP who was accused of committing a terrorism offense, was acquitted of the crime, the sources familiar with the case said.

NLD MP Daw Nwe Nwe Aung was arrested by the junta forces on November 27 last year at her home in Mawlamyine.

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung was later charged under Section 52 (a) of the Anti-Terrorism Law by the military regime on charges of collaborating with and funding a terrorist organization.

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung was acquitted by a Mawlamyine court on July 11 after the military council failed to provide any evidence.

Daw Nwe Nwe was detained at Kyaikmaraw Central Prison and was tried almost eight months later.

Daw Nwe Nwe Aung is the chairman of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Mawlamyine Township and a member of parliament who won the 2015 and 2020 general elections.
