Flow of commodities completely halted due to the closure of Dawei-Htee Khee border trade gate

Dawei, April (27)

The traders say the flow of goods has brought to a complete halt after the military council closed the Dawei-Htee Khee border trade gate (Myanmar) in Dawei Township for no reason.

The coup junta shut down the Dawei-Htee Khee border trade post on April 24 and gave no indication of when it might reopen.
Traders believe the gate has been closed because of fighting on the Dawei-Htee Khee road between the military council and the KNLA, which is risky for staff traveling to and from the trading gate.

According to a representative from the Htee Khe Border Trade Association, the closing of the border trade has impacted Thai-Myanmar trade and may result in increased import costs in the near future.
Myanmar exports local items to Thailand via the Dawei-Htee Khee border trade gate, including fisheries and agricultural products, and imports gas for kitchen stove and electrical appliances.
Fighting between the military council and the KNLA has been going on the Dawei-Htee Khe route since January, and some cars carrying fuel and gas have been set on fire.
