The National Unity Government contributed 100 million kyats to the United League of Arakn/Arakan Army (ULA/AA) for the rescue works and relief assistance in the aftermath of severe cyclonic storm Mocha that swept through Rakhine state on 14 May, according to the press release of ULA/AA on 17 May.
The cyclone caused about 95 percent of damages in Sittway and many areas of Rakhine state.
Moreover, the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) donated 300 million kyats, and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) 100 million kyats to ULA/AA.
The chairman of ULA, Twan Mrat Naing, signed the donation acknowledgement letter and expressed thanks for the contributions.
Its alliances Ta’ang National Liberation Army and MNDAA also urged international communities to provide assistance for rapid relief aid and rehabilitation works to the cyclone victims.
The allied forces expressed condolences for the loss of life and damages in Rakine state as a result of cyclone Mocha.
The NUG estimated 435 death toll in the cyclone affected areas, and they have allocated US$ 1 million for emergency relief fund.
However, the military council has not announced its relief fund for the cyclone affected people, and has not carried out rescue works effectively, said the rescue workers to Than Lwin Times.
