Myanmar military council arrested former information minister on 28 October evening.
Ye Htut, aged 64, was apprhended at his home and sent to Insein prison.
He served as the information minister and presidential spokesperson during President Thein Sein’s government from 2011 to 2016.
The outspoken retired senior military officer is now facing charges under Section 505 (a) under the Penal Code, for ‘inciting’ opposition to the mismanagement and poor administration of military council and its chief Min Aung Hlaing.
A source close to Yangon Region Police Force said, “He has been sent to Insein prison. No more details are not available at the moment.”
An official of Yangon Region Command filed a lawsuit, with accusation of spreading ‘misinformation’ and inciting civil service personnel to commit offenses.
Insein prison’s authorities have not reaponsed to the questions of Than Lwin Times on his detention.
Ye Htut was a cadet of 22nd bath of Defence Services Academy, and had close relationship with President Thein Sein.
Military lobbies frequently called for his arrest due to his satires and criticism after the militry coup.
