Pansang, 2 November
The United Wa State Party (UWSP/UWSA) announced on November 1 that it would respond if the army and air forces invaded its territory during the recent fighting in northern Shan State.
The UWSA adheres to the principle of neutrality, will not participate in the conflict in northern Shan State, and urges all parties involved to hold peace talks.
The statement also said that the UWSA will unconditionally protect territorial security and the security of people’s lives and property within the state.
In addition, the people who have taken refuge in Wa State will be provided with shelter and assistance for humanitarian purposes, according to the statement.
U Nyi Yang, the official from the Liaison Office of the UWSA in Lashio, responded to Than Lwin Times’ inquiry about the matter, stating that it is as mentioned in the statement.
More than ten thousand people fled the conflict in Lashio, Kutkhai, Kyaukme, Theinni, Mogote, and Muse, and 11 people, including five children, were killed in the five days of Operation 1027, reported the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA).
The UWSP/UWSA is a powerful ethnic armed organization that administers Wa State through a self-governing and judicial system and possesses a lot of modern military equipment.
