A lance corporal from 283 Infantry Battalion based in Kyainseikkyi in Karen State surrendered to KNU Brigade 6 – Dooplaya District along with weapon and ammunition on 19 December, reported the KNU.
Lance corporal Ye Ko Ko, 23, joined the commando unit of the KNU Brigade 6 with a MA-4, eight 40-mm grenades, four boxes of ammo, and 75 bullets, according to the statement.
Lt. Sergeant Ko Ko deserted the army and sought refuge in the People’s embarce because he could no longer put up with the mistreatment of superiors and oppression of the army, according to the report.
In addition, he vowed to cooperate with ethnic armed revolutionaries until the end of the military dictatorship.
The soldier was awarded 150 lakhs Myanmar kyats by the KNU-Dooplaya District, according to the statement.
The KNU and the people urged the military personnel to oppose everything that helps the oppressive military regime, to desert the army, and to join the KNU and the People’s embrace.
According to information from the National Unity Government (NUG), more than 14,000 soldiers and policemen joined the Civil Disobedient Movement (CDM) during the coup.
