A convoy carrying officials of Myanma Economic Holdings Public Company Limited (MEHL) hit stake mines between Wakon and Bawapin villages in Tanintharyi Region’s Dawei Township, injuring at least five people, members of the People’s Defense Forces told Than Lwin Times.

A military convoy of 17 vehicles returning from inspecting the Heinna mine was hit by two stake mines on its way to Daweik from Kyaukme Taung on the afternoon of June 28.

After being attacked by mines, the MEHL officials and regime troops stayed in Wakon village because they were afraid of hitting another mine.

On the morning of June 29, the MEHL officials and members of the military council arrived at Pakhet village and were seeking to leave for Dawei.

The arrival of regime troops forced locals from five villages, including Wakon and Pawapin villages, to flee their homes.

The members of the military council that came to inspect the Heinna mine used nearly 200 forces for their security, and are currently marching on foot from the eastern part of Dawei towards Dawei, said the resistance forces.

The eastern part of Dawei the stronghold of resistance forces, frequently suffering junta raids.
