Mawlamyine, 4 October
The KNU Headquarters clearly stated on October 2 that the military’s coup was politically illegal and that they will not make any dialogue.
The KNU’s statement came after the military council announced that representatives led by former KNU chief Saw Mutu Say Poe and junta chief-led military officials discussed issues related to peace in Nay Pyi Taw on September 30.
According to the KNU, the meeting between the former KNU chairman and the military leader was an attempt by the military council to cause confusion within the KNU organization, as well as a plan by the military to create misunderstandings among allied forces fighting to end the dictatorship and establish a democratic federal union.
Therefore, the press conference of the KNU held on August 10 after the 17th KNU Congress announced that there would be no dialogue because the military regime is politically illegal, according to the statement.
Along with the former KNU Chairman Saw Mutu Say Poe, former KNU-CEC member Padoh Saw Rogar Khin and former Dooplaya District Chairman Padoh Saw Shwe Maung attended the talks with the junta chief. The KNU said in a statement that this meeting had absolutely nothing to do with the Karen National Union (KNU).
The Karen National Union (KNU) said in a statement that it will stand firm and fight with like-minded revolutionary forces to achieve its political goals.
The Karen National Union (KNU) is a veteran ethnic armed organization that is fighting against the military regime in cooperation with revolutionary forces.
