The army, which endures losses in ground combat, is in a situation where it cannot fight without aircraft, and the death toll is rising, said KNU spokesperson, Padaoh Saw Tony.
The Karen National Union (KNU) announced On October 11, that more than 3,000 clashes broke out between the KNLA/KNDO forces and regime forces in KNU-controlled areas over the past nine months.
The battles claimed 3,865 junta troops, including officers, and injured 2260 others, according to the statement.
The KNU spokesperson Padoh Saw Tony said the morale of the regime forces on the ground is failing, and the junta troops will not dare to fight without the support of aircraft, with heavy losses.
In addition to the significant number of dead, the junta army’s control over the territory has been weakened, and future territorial losses are expected, according to Padoh Saw Tony.
According to KNU’s statement, 112 comrades sacrificed their lives and 399 people were injured for the country and the people on the side of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA)/Karen National Defense Force (KNDO) over a nine-month period.
The military council lost 62 military camps due to an offensive launched by KNLA-allied forces in the Kawthoolei-administered area until July 2023, since the coup.
According to the Karen Peace Support Network (KPSN), the KNU’s control areas expanded following the coup.
