Yebyu, 21 October
Thousands of local residents have fled their homes as massive regime troops invaded Tanintharyi Region’s Yebyu Township, according to displaced people and resistance forces.
Starting on October 19, a column of more than 200 troops separated into three groups and entered Yehyu Township.
As junta column approached, more than 1,000 residents from the villages of Akani, Khamauk Chaung Watchaung, Wah Swan Taw, Ya Hlaing, Pagaw Zun, and Mu Du in Ye Phyu Township fled to safe places.
A clash erupted between the two sides near the Kinte Bridge, and an official from the People’s Defense Force of Yephyu Township stated that the inquiry into injuries or deaths is underway.
Locals said that the military column arrived at Mu Du village on the morning of October 20 and gunned down a vendor man to death and arrested three local people, but Than Lwin Times has not been able to confirm this independently.
Those people are displaced people who returned to their homes in the first week of October and are fleeing again due to the invasion.
According to an independent research group, FE5 Tanintharyi, at least 50 clashes broke out in Tanintharyi in September, and more than 45,000 local residents were forced to flee the conflict on October 11.
