The displaced people who fled the fighting in Mon State’s Kyaikmaraw are desperate need of food, blankets and clothes, said locals.
The fighting continues for days since the allied resistance forces has launched an attack on Chaunghnakhwa checkpoint and police station in Kyaikmaraw on November 10.
The battle has spread to Sabaigu bridge area in Kyaikmaraw, forcing more than 20,000 people in 20 villages including Chaunghnakhwa, Mae Tayu, Kawtpanaw, Kawtdun, Hlakazaing, Wange, Kawtpayan, Mikathit, Meethwaykon and Taungkalay.
Most IDPs are taking shelter in monasteries, farms , and Pya Taung Cave and as the days went by, the need for help increased.
According to five displaced local residents, they are currently in need of basic food, medicine, warm clothes, blankets, and sanitary pads and there are no donors.
Some civil societies, including Mon organizations, have donated what the displaced people need, but some villages where the fighting took place have not yet received assistance.
Than Lwin Times tried to reach Dr. Aung Myat Kyaw Sein, spokesperson of the Mon State Counicl for comment on the difficulties faced by the displaced people of Kyaikmaraw, but he did not respond.
A civil servant officer in Mon State who did not want to be named told Than Lwin Times that the Mon State authorities have no plans to assist the displaced people and that there is no discussion about the issue during meetings.
According to a report released by the research group, ISP-Myanmar, the fighting accompanied by Operation 1027 during the coup forced more than four million people to flee their homes across the country.
