Many residents of Ottadar village who were arrested in the shooting death of two policemen, including a surveillance officer from Zinkyike police station in Paung Township, Mon State, have yet to be released, the sources told Than Lwin Times.
The unidentified gunmen shot and killed two policemen, including a surveillance officer on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway, on December 11.
After two policemen were shot dead, the military council forces arrested 14 local youths and the elderly U Myat San, who were accused of being involved in the shooting.
The military council released seven youths after questioning, but the rest are reportedly being inspected at the interrogation center.
Police Lance Corporal Myo Ko Ko and Policeman Khaing Zaw Tun, who were returning to Zinkyike Police Station from Ottadar village, died on the spot in an attack.
After the attack, the military regime tightened security in Paung Township, blocking roads and inspecting passersby.
