Nyaunglaybin, January (22)
Fighting continues unabated between regime forces and a combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) in the 3rd Brigade of KNU-Nyaunglaybin District since early January, and the junta’s mortar shelling has forced at least 5,000 locals to seek refuge, the KNU reported.
From January 1 to January 15, there were 55 clashes between KNLA joint forces and the junta army, which resulted in the deaths of 47 military people, including one battalion commander, and the injuries of 19 others while there were also unconfirmed casualties.
The KNLA joint force destroyed 21 military trucks, suffering two casualties and two injuries.
The military council deliberately fired heavy weapons into the villages where the people live in 15 days of fighting, and more than 5,000 people in Kyaukgyi and Mone Township of KNU-Nyaunglaybin District had to flee to safety, and one local was injured.
The locals are in turmoil because of the daily clashes happening on Nat Than Kwin-Kyaukgyi road and Kyaukgyi-Mone road.
The military regime, on the other hand, declared that it would cease all military operations for a year, but it continued to conduct military operations in KNU Brigades, including the 3rd Brigade, Nyaunglaybin, leading to intense fighting and a rise in the number of people fleeing the conflict.
