A Mon businessman from Mawkanin village in Lamaing Town of Mon State’s Ye Township was arrested on the pretext of being interrogated by the army, the locals told Than Lwin Times.
On February 14, the Military Council summoned Mon businessman Nai Tint Wai to the administration office of Mawkanin village and then took him to the Infantry Battalion 106 based in Lamaing.
The family members raised concerns that the Military Council did not release Naing Tintwei until February 16.
According to people close to the family, Nai Tint Wei runs the Yadanarman gas station, grocery store, and pharmacy and has no affiliation with any organizations.
The military council arrested four locals from Mawkanin village in the past few days, two of them were released after being tortured, but the other two are still in custody.
In addition, on February 9, the junta army shot and killed Nai Bin, a resident of Mawkanin village, who went to work at a rubber farm.
After the military council declared martial law in Mon State’s Ye Township, regime troops have been continuously conducting patrols, tightening security, and arresting local residents.
