Myeik, February (18)
Tanintharyi coalition forces attacked the military regime’s outpost stationed at the old Tonebyaw village in Tanintharyi Region’ Myeik Township, at about 5 am on February 17, the information official of joint forces told Than Lwin Times.
The combined force of resistance groups; Non-aligned Guerrilla Force, Myeik Battalion 2, Myeik PDF, Kyunsu PDF and allied forces, attacked the military outpost where more than 30 soldiers were stationed.
In response to this attack, the two sides engaged in a nearly hour-long firefight, killing one member of the military council, injuring another, and confiscating a gun.
After the battle, the regime forces continued to shoot indiscriminately with heavy and small arms until 10 am, but the Joint People’s Defense Forces were able to withdraw without any casualties.
Some Tonebyaw village inhabitants temporarily fled to safety amid the battle between the two sides, while others remained inside their homes.
The PDFs often attack Tonebyaw village because it is a stronghold of the militia located on the border of Myeik and Taninthari.
On November 22 of last year, the junta-appointed U Sein Than and a Warrant Officer II were killed, and five other junta soldiers were injured in the battle that took place in Tonebyaw village.
