Representatives from 5^th Brigade fail to show up at KNU Congress

The representatives of 5^th Brigade weren’t present at the 17^th KNU Congress, the sources from Karen National Union (KNU) told Than Lwin Times.

Since it was not possible to hold an in-person meeting, the KNU Congress was held via online video conference starting on February 27 and executive committee members and representatives from various districts attended, but there were no representatives from the 5^th Brigade.

The Than Lwin Times contacted KNU spokesperson Pado Saw Taw Nee for comment on the situation, but he went unanswered, and the KNU central office has not yet released any official statement.

A 5t^h Brigade representative declined to comment on the matter of their representatives not attending the KNU Congress.

The Congress is supposed to be held every four years, but the 17^th KNU Congress had to be postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic and military conflicts.

However, the online event took place just a week after KNU spokesperson Pado Saw Taw Nee said that the conference must be held no matter what.

The Karen National Union (KNU) held its 16^th Congress in March 2017.
