Thaton, April (18)
The combined forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) launched an attack on the police station in Theinseik Ward, Thuwannawaddy, in Mon State’s Thaton Township on the morning of April 17, a source from PDF-Thaton District told Than Lwin Times.
Yesterday morning at around 10:00 a.m., the KNLA and PDF conducted a raid using heavy and small weapons on the Theinseik police station, where more than 15 police officers reside.
The KNLA joint forces retreated after the attack led to a firefight between the two sides for nearly 20 minutes.
Some policemen were injured or killed during the exchange of fire, but the exact number is still being investigated, said Ko Aye Min Tun, the PDF official in Thaton district.
After the incident, junta troops and the police blocked off some roads and inspected pedestrians, and most of the shops were temporarily closed because regime troops were carrying out gunfire, according to the locals.
The Theinseik police station, located near the military council’s Battalion 3, was attacked for the first time in more than two years after the military coup.
