Mawlamyine, April (9 )

The military council is demanding exorbitant amounts of money from passenger buses and trucks at the Ye river crossing checkpoint in Mon State for a reason of providing security, the truck drivers said.

A truck driver said that they used to cost only Ks 10,000 for a round trip, but now the junta troops are asking for Ks 100,000.

The truck drivers are in trouble due to the military council’s excessive demands and face threats if they don’t pay.

A truck driver described the regime’s behaviour as bullying and outrageous.

The regime troops are inspecting the travellers for National Registration Cards at the checkpoint and if the passengers are found to have no NRC, they are being forced to return or fined.
