Colonel Saw Htoo Ka Shaw, tactical commander of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) Brigade 5, was killed in the raid of regime’s Kyauk Hnyat camp, according to the sources close to the 5th Brigade.
On April 28, the KNLA Brigade 5 and its allies stormed and seized a military base in Hpapun District near the Than Lwin River.
During the battle, however, the regime launched air strikes, killing the tactical commander of KNLA Brigade 5, Col. Saw Htoo Ka Saw.
According to a source close to the 5th Brigade, its was a huge loss for KNLA due to his honesty and friendliness, as well as his military prowess.
Colonel Saw Htoo Ka Shaw is also a member of the Working Committee of the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 5 Hpapun District.
The military council’s Kyauk Hnyat camp is an important military base situated on the bank of the Than Lwin River on the Thai-Myanmar border and is home to Light Infantry Division 434.
After the KNLA’s 5th Brigade stormed and controlled the camp, the military blasted Mae Nu Hta village near the Than Lwin River, driving many inhabitants away.
