5 killed, 5 injured as military convoy strikes landmine in Thaton

The military convoy was ambushed on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Kamarsaing village in Mon State’s Thaton, killing five regime soldiers and injuring five others at night on February 4, according to KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee-Thaton District.

The combined force of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and People’s Defense Force (PDF) attacked a military convoy of four vehicles traveling from Thaton to Belin around 9 pm on Februay 4.

There was a gunfight for nearly 20 minutes following the attack, and one military vehicle was damaged, according to the chairman of KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee, who spoke to Than Lwin Times.

The deceased soldiers and damaged car were taken away by members of the military council immediately.

A three-vehicle military convoy that was traveling from Belin to Thaton on January 1 was attacked, which may have resulted in some casualties.

Attacks on regime forces frequently occurred on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road near Belin’s Daukyat village and Thaton’s Kamarsaing village in Mon State.
