Thaton, February (21)

The military convoy was ambushed on the Yangon-Mawlamyine highway near Kamarsaing village in Mon State’s Thaton, killing seven junta troops, the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee told Than Lwin Times.

On February 19, at 8:00 pm, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces attacked a military convoy of five vehicles driving towards Belin from Thaton, and fired them with heavy and small arms.

After the mine attack, the two sides exchanged fire for almost half an hour, with junta forces suffering heavy losses.

A civilian truck traveling on the Yangon-Mawlamyine route got trapped, killing the driver, as the two forces traded gunfire.

The chairman of the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee expressed his grief at the death of a civilian in this attack and warned people to stay away the military council.

The deceased driver was identified as Ko Naing Min Tun (aka) Wakkalay, 34, of Suutak village, Kantbalu Township, Sagaing Region.

The military council’s propaganda telegram accounts alleged that Ko Naing Min Tun was shot and killed by a joint force of the KNU and PDF.

After the military coup, military troops were frequently attacked on the Yangon-Mawlamyine road, and civilians were also injured or killed.
