Thaton, March (21)

The combined force of Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) launched an attack on a military convoy and outposts on the Thaton – Hap-an road in Mon State’s Thaton Township on March 19, reported the KNU’s Allied Supervisory Committee.

Two military vehicles heading to Thaton from Hpa-an hit the landmines planted by the KNLA between Warbotaw and Durinseik villages around 11 am on that day.

The KNLA attacked the junta forces in the compound of the caustic factory of Infantry Battalion 24 in Durinseik village and a police outpost near Durinseik Bridge with mortar shells and drones.

While the attack on the Durinseik police outpost resulted in two fatalities and one injury, the landmine attack claimed the lives of five soldiers and injured another five.

According to locals, the attacks caused nearly two hours of traffic congestion on the Hpa-an – Thaton road.

On March 1, the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and joint forces used a drone to attack checkpoints at the Durinseik Bridge on the border of Mon and Karen states.
