Thayetchaung, June (28)

A local defense force used heavy weapons to attack the military council’s Shwe Gu bridge checkpoint near Shin Moat Htee village in Tanintharyi Region’s Thayetchaung Township.

On June 26, about 7:00 p.m., the Shwe Gu bridge checkpoint, where junta soldiers and police officers were stationed, was attacked by local defense forces using homemade heavy weapons.

After being attacked, the junta troops at Shwe Gu and the Nyaung Zin village-based Oaktu bridge checkpoints fired at least 50 rounds of artillery shells.

But members of the people’s Defense Force and civilians have been reported injuries or casualties in the attack.

At least two junta troops were killed or injured, and the PDF is still investigating the details of the situation.

On the morning of June 27, a local man was injured when reinforcement troops, who arrived at the Oaktu bridge checkpoint, opened fire for no reason.

The Shwe Gu and Oaktu bridge checkpoints in Thayetchaung Township have been frequently attacked since the coup, with the junta sustaining deaths or injuries.
