Yangon, August (6)

The Myanmar Rice Federation (MRF) announced on August 5 that it will begin selling 50,000 bags of reserved rice on August 7 in order to stabilize domestic rice prices.

The reserved rice will be sold at Wahdan and Bayint Naung Rice Whole Sale Centres in Yangon.

Shwebo Pawsan will be sold for K120,000 per bag, Ayeyawady Pawsan for K97,000, and Emahta for K65,000, said the statement.

Individuals can buy one bag of Pawsan and one bag of Emahta per month by presenting their national identity cards, while employees of companies, factories, and departmental personnel can buy it with the necessary verification credentials, including by contacting the MRF via email.

The reserved rice, which will be sold at affordable price by the Myanmar Rice Federation, is just 5,000 to 15,000 kyats cheaper per bag than rice prices in the local market.

According to rice traders, the sale of reserved rice may somewhat reduce the present rice price, but it will not be a significant change.

U Ye Min Aung, chairman of the Myanmar Rice Federation, told Than Lwin Times that the sale of reserved rice was organized by the private sector to stabilize the price of rice and ensure the right price and rice variety for the people.
