Kyunsu, 6 September

The local defense force reported that it destroyed a lead mine block owned by the leader of a pro-junta militia group called Pyu Saw Htee in Yamon village in Tanintharyi Region’s Kyunsu Township.

On September 3, around 1 p.m., the local defense force destroyed equipment and tents in the lead mine block operated by the militia leaders U Kyi Hla and U Soe Min who lived in Pedaing village.

The spokesperson of the local defense force told Than Lwin Times that that mine block is illegally occupied public land, and the militia members are working in cooperation with the military council, so they have to destroy it.

When the lead mine block was destroyed, no militia members or workers were found; only business-related equipment was found, the resistance group said.

Militia leader U Kyi Hla illegally confiscated three blocks of lead mine land covering six acres, and he earns hundreds of thousands of kyats from them each month.

Prior to the coup, only large lead mines were permitted to operate in Kyunsu with the permission of the government. Under the rein of the military council, small illegal lead mine blocks developed, and local residents claimed that the businessmen had to offer money to the junta army and militia groups in order to operate the mines.
