Yebyu, 23 September
Residents from five villages have fled their homes as regime forces invaded the area of the deep sea port in Tanintharyi Region’s Yebyu Township, said local defense forces.
On 21 September, over 60-strong regime forces marched in three columns towards the villages of Wazan Taw, Ekani, and Khamuk Chaung, firing heavy weapons and small arms.
Due to the army’s invasion, residents of villages such as Wazan Taw, Ya Nge, Khamauk Chaugna, Wat Chaung, and Ekani have fled to the nearby forests in fear.
To date, no fighting has been reported between the two sides, but the military tension remains high, a Yephyu-PDF official told Than Lwin Times.
Having entered Yebyu in August, regime troops set fire to 27 houses.
Local research organizations have reported that more than 36,000 local residents were forced to flee junta shelling and conflict in Tanintharyi Region in August alone.
