Myeik, 11 November
The Myeik People’s Defense Forces issued a warning dated November 9 to the business tycoons in Myeik Township, Tanintharyi Region, not to cooperate with the military council and to immediately stop their support.
According to the statement, the businessmen failed to support armed resistance forces like the People’s Defense Organizations and the Local Defense Forces.
Therefore, if the entrepreneurs ignore the warning and continue to cooperate with the military council, effective action will be taken.
According to resistance forces, nearly 20 businessmen, including U Hla Than, U Soe Win, and U Kyauk Sein from Myeik, are not only providing financial support to the military council but are also assisting with food and transportation.
According to a member of Myeik-PDF, they are aware that the businessmen are funding the military council with tens of thousands of kyats, and they are warning them one last time to stop their actions immediately.
According to local residents, Myeik businessmen cooperated with the military council during the coup and took advantage of their rights over public lands and islands to expand their businesses.
Myeik, Tanintharyi Region’s main commercial township, operates mainly in fisheries, gas stations, gold shops, forest products, real estate, and tourism.
Most of these businesses are run by business tycoons who cooperate with the military council.
