Tensions are rising because the military council has reinforced troops while advancing towards the areas around Laiza District, Kachin State, said KIO Spokesperson Colonel Naw Bu.
Since June 26, Light Infantry Battalion 384 and Shwe Min Militia Group have launched offensive attacks along the Sadon-Kan Paik Ti route in the areas of 3rd Brigade of Kachin Liberation Army (KIA).
There has been no retreat in military operations throughout the first week of July.
Meanwhile, the junta army continues to be stationed in Nam San Yang Village in Waingmaw Township, which is only 11 miles away from Laiza, where the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) headquarters is located, reinforcing troops.
Colonel Naw Bu said, “The military council is sending troops from Myitkyina, and has launched invasions in Bamaw. The gunshots are no longer heard for the time being, but the military situation remains high”.
On July 3, a clash broke out between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the massive combined force of the military regime and a junta-aligned militia group.
The resistance fighters from Lagat Kawng outpost in the front line of KIA Brigade 3 were forced to retreat, Colonel Naw Bu said.
There are now no signs of soldiers leaving around the Lagat Kawng camp, and he emphasized that due to the tight military situation on both sides, people should stockpile supplies in anticipation of a possible extended conflict.
During the first week of July, the junta army has been reinforcing troops in Bamaw-Myitkyina-Shwe Ku, and on July 3, two columns of around 250 regime troops marched from Bamaw, according to local media.
On July 4, a junta force of around 100 troops marched from Shweku to Bamaw by inland waterway.
In addition, on July 6, four 12-wheeler trucks carrying soldiers from Myitkyina-Waingmaw headed to Nam San Yang, according to local media outlets.
On July 4, the Laiza District Administration Office warned people to be cautious since clashes could erupt at any time due to junta activities in the KIO-controlled area of Laiza District.
