Nay Pyi Taw, June (2)
In the last week of May, the military council covertly instructed township veterans’ organizations to resume security duties.
The military council’s secret command stated: “As foreign saboteurs aim to weaken and disintegrate the military, which is defending three main tasks, veterans must do their best to protect the country”.
According to the military council’s secret directive, there would be three age groups: under 50 years old, between 50 and 60 years old, and 60 to 65 years old.
Veterans who are unable to discharge their duties must, however, report to the chairman of the local township veterans organization in person.
Because they were old and crippled, an army informant suggested the military council would utilize them in the reporting area.
On the other side, the military council urged veterans to join community security groups and was tasked with security.
