Thaton, June (3)

According to KNU Brigade 1 officers, battle between the KNLA and the junta armed forces resumed on the Wiyaw – Htone Bo Lay – Paine Taw route in Thaton Township, Mon State, on May 2 after having suspended for several days.

The clash took place between the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) and the regime forces as they marched into Htone Bo Lay Village, Thaton Township.

At least five members of the military personnel might have been killed in the nearly three-hour battle, an official from the KNU Brigade 1 told Than Lwin Times.

The military council fired at least 30 mortars at Htone Bo Lay village, injuring one civilian and damaged numerous dwellings.

Fighting began following a nearly two-week cease-fire between the junta and KNLA joint forces in Thaton Township, which is controlled by the KNU’s 1st Brigade.

Last May, the KNU reported that 41 skirmishes occurred in Thaton District, with 71 military soldiers and two KNLA forces killed.
