Two junta aircraft conducted air raids on a KIA-held area near Maliyang village beside the Myitkyina-Bamaw road in Kachin State’s Waingmaw Township, Colonel Naw Bu, the spokesperson of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), confirmed Than Lwin Times.
The two jet planes took off from Mandalay Ta Dar Oo Airport at 11:00 p.m. on August 4 and bombarded the region near Maliyang village, where one of the KIA camps was stationed.
No injuries or casualties were reported in the junta airstrikes, but the power lines and towers that run from the hydroelectric power plant to Myitkyina-Waingmaw were destroyed, said Colonel Naw Bu.
The junta army used an aircraft to bomb villages near Nam San Yang on July 21 and 27, and an explosion near the governor’s office and a Catholic church wrecked buildings and killed four cows.
Colonel Naw Bu added that regime forces have been deployed along the Myitkyina-Bamaw route, and military tensions between the two sides remain high; fighting may resume as soon as the junta makes advances.
On July 4, the Laiza District Administration Office warned travelers to avoid the Myitkyina-Bamaw road, where both forces are stationed.
There has been military tension between the junta army and the KIA along the Myitkyina-Bamaaw Road since the beginning of July, when regime troops raided Nam San Yang village near Laiza, where the KIA headquarters is located.
Since then, the junta army has positioned troops at three spots along the Myitkyina-Bamaw Road and has clashed with KIA joint forces at least three times in late July.
