Myeik District Administration Council removed a military officer from its position for being involved in most of the illegal business activities, including bribery.
Lt. Col. Myo Min Tun was fired by the Commander of Tanintharyi Command because he was notorious for corruption cases, the sources close to the matter told Than Lwin Times.
After being removed from the District Council in June, Lt. Col. Myo Min Tun is returning to military service as the deputy principal of the No. 12 Combat Training School in Shwe Du Village, Myeik Township.
Lt. Col. Myo Min Tun was among the officials who arrested and tortured young students, including political activists and journalists, in Myeik District.
In addition, he arrested innocent civilians for political reasons and released them after demanding ransom money, selling plots of land in the villages, opening KTVs, and operating some illegal businesses in Myeik under the name of his wife and others.
Lieutenant Colonel Myo Min Tun was the one who personally arrested and tortured Ko Aung Kyaw from DVB News and Ko Zaw Zaw, a freelance reporter from Mizzima News Agency.
In July, three senior military officials of Tanintharyi Region, including Deputy Commander of the Coastal Region Command Brigadier General Thit Lwin Htoo, were removed from their positions after being summoned to Nay Pyi Taw for corruption.
