Mawlamyine, 23 September
Over 40 people in Mon State have been taken into custody in two weeks for various reasons, according to locals.
The Than Lwin Times revealed that a total of 38 locals—20 from Paung Township, 10 from Kyaikto Township, five from Thaton Township, and three from Thanbyuzayet Township—were arrested in the two weeks from September 7 to 21.
After the deaths of the police and informants, the military council arrested local residents in Paung and Kyaikto townships on suspicion of involvement with the People’s Defense Force (PDFs).
And local residents from Thaton and Thanbyuzayet townships were arrested for sharing and commenting on the news about the National Unity Government (NUG) and PDFs on social media.
The military council has filed cases against those arrested under the Counter-Terrorism Law as well as Section 505(a) of the Penal Code at the relevant police stations.
Some detainees have been sent to the interrogation center and held incommunicado, said locals.
On 21 September, the Assistance Association for the Political Prisoners (AAPP) reported that 818 citizens had been detained in Mon State in the two and a half years since the military coup.
