Ye, 8 October
Women have been targeted and robbed in Mon State’s Ye Township, where martial law has been declared, according to locals.
On 5 October, three men stopped a woman from Leikpoke village who was riding a motorcycle between Kwin Shae and Kyauk Migyaung villages in Ye township, threatened her with a gun, and robbed her of 1 million kyats.
Two males on motorcycles kicked the motorcycle of a young woman going from Ah Sin village to Ye in the first week of September and grabbed her wallet and phones.
According to information gathered by Than Lwin Times, at least 20 robberies occurred in Ye Township in September alone, with women being targeted in the majority of the attacks.
According to locals, there have been incidences of being robbed at gunpoint, beaten and robbed, and robbed at knifepoint.
Mob robberies are more common during the day than at night, and the police force is unable to identify and take action.
The illegal gambling, drug usage, and high commodity prices increased robberies in Ye Township, where the military council’s administrative body could not properly function following the coup.
