Major offensive will be launched in cooperation with entire people, says KNU

The Karen National Union (KNU) has insisted that it will launch a more intense and massive offensive involving the entire public against a hard-hit military regime.

On November 17, KNU spokesperson Padho Saw Taw Nee made this comment while officially informing the public about the current political, military, and KNU’s positions.

The KNU has announced that it will begin operations against the junta army, which is suffering from offensive attacks by ethnic armed resistance forces throughout the country, including northern Shan State.

Padho Saw Taw Nee stated that the military council will be attacked with a political, military, and diplomatic battle, as well as economic sanctions, and that a mass battle involving the entire public will be launched.

From the February coup of 2021 to September 2023, around 11,000 battles broke out between the joint forces of the KNU and the junta army in KNU territory, with over 18,000 soldiers killed or wounded.

“The number of casualties was very devastating for the military council, and the strength of the junta army was decreasing. We (KNU) are about to launch more intense battles wave together with the public.”

In addition, the military council is in a tight spot due to the joint attacks of the Three Brotherhood Alliance and cannot send reinforcements to the front lines, nor can it replenish the number of casualties during the fighting, said Padoh Saw Taw Nee.

He also warned that the military council, which is losing in various sectors, could make compromises through discussions that could confuse the public by releasing an unjustly arrested political prisoner or a well-known political leader.

Furthermore, the KNU believes that the military council may deceive the public by pretending to replace General Min Aung Hlaing with another person.

The military regime has lost nearly 200 military bases across the country due to the offensives of the Three Brotherhood Alliance and the revolutionary forces, and relinquished one town by another.
