Launglon, 29 December
An 18-year-old youth who was arrested and beaten by regime troops in Gawinn village in Taninttharyi Region’s Launglon Township died 10 days after being admitted to the hospital, said locals.
On December 17, Maung Kan Shein and his family were on their way from Dawei to Gawinn village by motorcycle and were arrested because they ran away in fear when the military column stopped them.
Maung Kan Shein was seriously injured as the soldiers hit his head and body all over with rifle butts, so he was taken to Launglon Public Hospital with the help of the locals.
People close to the family told Than Lwin Times that he died of serious injuries on December 27 while being treated at Yangon Hospital because Launglon Hospital refused to treat him. He was cremated in Yangon.
In Tanintharyi, the military regime continues to violate human rights without reason by arresting, killing, and using the local people as human shields during the coup.
According to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP), nearly 150 civilians were killed in Tanintharyi following the coup.
