Tanintharyi, November (2)
More than 3,000 residents have fled to escape the fighting that erupted between the two sides in Nyaungpingwin and Banglaw villages in Tanintharyi Township, the sources who assist the refugees told Than Lwin Times.
The regime forces have clashed with the People’s Defense Forces near Nyaungpingwin village since October 29.
The fighting between the two sides has escalated since the conflict hit Banglaw village.
The clashes forced the residents from eight villages, including Nyaungpingwin, Banglaw, Chaukmile , Htonedaw, Moteseikkwin and Kwehteinkwin, to seek shelter in forests and relatives’ houses.
Moreover, two locals suffered serious injuries after they were struck by a mortar shell fired by the military council during the conflict between the two sides, while at least 15 homes were destroyed.
An official of the non-aligned guerrilla group is urging people to move to safe places as the fighting may intensify.
Because of fighting between the military council and PDFs following the military coup, more than 10,000 residents have left the conflict in Tanintharyi.
